Celosia caracas, also called the Cockscomb plant because of its flowers, shaped like an upright fluffy plume and brilliant purple-pink in colour. They appear in mid-summer above clumps of oval green leaves, and remain until mid-autumn. The cut flowers can be dried for use as long-lasting flower arrangements.
Celosia caracas is a half-hardy annual. It needs a site in full sun, and will cope with most soil types provided they are well drained.
